Franchise Spotlight: 1080° Snowboarding

Franchise: 1080 Snowboarding

If you were a gamer in the late '90s or early noughties, one thing you'll probably remember is the trend for snowboarding and skiing games. 1080° Snowboarding is a Nintendo-exclusive IP that has either been forgotten, or the trend for snowboarding games has stayed locked in history. It's not an IP I see people crying out for a new game in.

It's one of the smaller franchises, consisting of just two games:

1080° Snowboarding (Nintendo 64, 1998)

Miyamoto originally wanted to make a skiing game, but chose snowboarding because it gave the player more freedom.

1080° Avalanche (GameCube, 2003)

The second and final game in the franchise sticks with snowboarding, but feels more focused on racing than tricks.

Both games offer a fun experience for short pick-up-and-play sessions.
