Community Notes Feed

Community Notes are short, factual notes added by Omni Games members to a game group. They record details that aren't already shown on the title's own pages, such as differences between regional releases, known dump or revision issues, or release trivia.

Applies to: Monster World IV (Japan), Mega Drive / Genesis
Released late in the Mega Drive/Genesis lifecycle (exclusively in Japan until its eventual digital localisation years later), it represents the visual, audio, and technical peak of Westone's classic 16-bit design.

(October 17, 2026, 10:48 pm)
Applies to: ALL Titles in Group
This entry into the franchise deviated from the RPG path Monster Land took, Sega and Westone essentially split the franchise here: Monster Laur continued the pure arcade action branch, while Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap (released the following year) continued the Monster World action-RPG lineage.

The game is an explicit crossover/parody combining the Alex Kidd universe with Sega’s Shinobi franchise. Alex gains ninja abilities, wields a katana, throws shuriken, transforms into a fireball, and fights cartoonish versions of classic Shinobi bosses.

Applies to: BMX Trial: Alex Kidd (Japan), Master System / Mark III
Released exclusively in Japan for the Master System / Mark III, the game was bundled with and required Sega’s Paddle Control, a specialised analog dial controller. Standard Master System control pads are completely incompatible with the game.

The game was originally released in Japan in 1987 as Anmitsu Hime (based on a popular manga/anime about a spoiled samurai princess). For its 1989 Western release, Sega replaced the character sprites and modified the dialogue to star Alex Kidd, slapping the franchise name onto a completely unrelated title.

Unlike other games in the "Alex Kidd" franchise this was primarily designed for the arcade before being ported to the Master System / Mark III. As a result it also plays different to the other titles.

The final boss encounter against the Martian Mothership (Rugname) directly parodies the climax of the 1996 film Independence Day. A Rebel soldier sacrifices himself by flying his plane into the alien ship's laser cannon port to open a weak point for the player.
