American Laser Games - 3DO-based Arcade

Arcade system board

American Laser Games' FMV shooters, moved from laserdisc to 3DO-based hardware.

Ecosystem: American Laser Games
Released: 1996-1996
Media: Physical

Overview

As laserdisc hardware aged, American Laser Games moved its later arcade games onto hardware based on the 3DO console. The format stayed the same (live-action video, a light gun and branching scenes), but the move made cabinets cheaper and more reliable to run than their laserdisc predecessors.

This short line marks the final stage of the company's arcade output before the FMV boom faded in the mid-1990s, and it's a small but telling footnote in the 3DO's history: the console's hardware found a second life inside arcade cabinets.
